Everything I love tends to have some sort of nostalgic quality to it. Products made with care and love and skill.
More and more, people are realizing there’s a benefit to having things that are handmade and high-quality. They care more about who makes the stuff they own, and where it comes from. You can feel the difference between something that’s made by hand and something that’s disposable. A handmade object has a spirit. Once you’ve made the shift from one to the other, it’s hard to go back.
Everything is so noisy, so I choose to plan simple, unadorned houses. And my decision to build responsibly is derived from questioning the norms of my past experiences: I’ve been an architect for 20 years, and I’ve seen how dirty the building process is. So that was my jumping off point. I thought, let’s plan huts and houses I´d like to live in with a process I believe in. Small houses with grassy rooftops, that rain falls softly on it.
My studio is very remote in the countryside. It is important to me to be surrounded by nature. My relationship with nature is essential in the work that I’m doing. „I’m fascinated by how different cultures „build“ their relationships with nature. What they perceive as spirits in nature, what they bring to us, and how we respond with our way of dwelling, governed by the natural world around us. I need a lot of solitude and silence. I love listening to different music and sometimes that will facilitate an altered awareness, but generally I need silence and a lot of time alone. This studio out in the woods is really peaceful and I can get away from the distractions and listen to what’s around me.“
I strive to design contemporary silhouettes with nostalgic sentiment, integrity and authenticity.
“We all seek to surround ourselves with things we love. Collecting objects with meaning. Designs that resonate with our soul. Pieces reflecting different facets of our personality…”
